Symbol of fidelity in Asia, the mandarin duck is a species belonging to the family of anatidae which lives mainly in the East of Siberia, in the northeast of China, in Japan, in Taiwan and in Korea. This specie is therefore not common in Europe. Males are easily recognizable by the colour, but also by the shape of their wings, before breeding period. Once the latter has passed, its beautiful plumage disappears to approach that of the duller females.
